Bar Essentials

Bar carts had a meteoric rise in popularity in the last few years, but we actually prefer a bar cabinet that you can close up when you’re done, rather than leaving liquor out on display. Make sure yours is stocked with versatile tumblers for serving a variety of cocktails in, plus the tools you’ll need to make them, like a shaker, strainer and ice bucket. Finish the space with a few candles and colorful coasters.

Pear & Ginger

Segue summer’s citrusy cocktails into fall with this pear cocktail complete with ginger syrup, providing some fall-appropriate spice. For an extra kick, muddle a bit of fresh ginger into the bottom of the shaker, add the remaining ingredients and shake vigorously with ice to chill. Strain and garnish with a pear slice.

1.5 oz. Ketel One Citroen Flavored Vodka

1.75 oz. Pear Nectar

0.25 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice

0.5 oz. Ginger Simple Syrup

Apple & Rosemary

There’s nothing like picking fresh apples in the fall. While everyone else slaves over pies, mix yours into some cocktails. With fresh rosemary and orange liqueur, this cocktail is light on alcohol and heavy on flavor. Muddle the apple slices and rosemary in the bottom of the shaker, add lime juice and Cointreau and shake with ice to combine. Strain over ice and top with club soda.

2 oz. Cointreau

1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

3 Slices Tart Apple

7 Leaves Fresh Rosemary

3 oz. Club Soda

Roasted Red Pepper & Serrano Chile

Your guests won’t be expecting this flavor combination. Roasted red peppers offer a savory base while serrano chiles provide a spicy twist—the perfect alternative to fruit-based cocktails. There’s always a guest who prefers something “not too sweet” and this is the beverage for them. Muddle the herbs and fresh ingredients before adding the remaining components and shaking with ice. Strain into a glass rimmed with equal parts salt, sugar, and tajin.

2 oz. Casamigos Reposado

1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice

.5 oz. Simple Syrup

2 Slices Roasted Red Bell Pepper

2 Serrano Slices

8-10 Cilantro Leaves

Finishing Touches

Hosting can be intimidating, so preparation is key to doing so with grace. Have a few hot appetizers prepped ahead of time so you can throw them in the oven while you finish getting ready.  Nail down your look the night before so you’re not rushing through outfit changes at the last minute. As your guests arrive start making the cocktails. While it may take longer than pouring a glass of wine, the customized touch goes a long way and will give you the opportunity to have a welcoming chat with each guest.
