Kate Somerville’s Tips For Getting Flawless Skin At Home

Step 1

“Cleansing is a key step to beautiful skin, as it removes all dirt, oil and bacteria from the skin’s surface.  At my Skin Health Experts™ Clinic on Melrose Place, we promote a double cleanse (cleansing twice) to ensure you fully remove all makeup and dirt from your skin.”

Step 2

“Steam—whether from your shower or a bath (lay a warm washcloth over your face if you’re in a bath) to instantly bring moisture to your skin.  I tell my clients who travel a lot to steam as often as they can (daily, ideally) to bring back the hydration you can loose from flying, jet-lag and stress.”

Step 3

“Exfoliate after steaming to slough off dead skin. Dry skin is dead skin and you need to remove it to get your skin glowing. I recommend using an exfoliator that is both physical and chemical, like my ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. Look for a product with smooth beads to help lift dead, dry skin cells for physical exfoliation, whereas fruit Enzymes (like pineapple, pumpkin or papaya) or alpha hydroxy acids (like lactic or glycolic acid) are all examples of chemical exfoliators that work to dissolve dead skin to reveal a healthy, beautiful glow.”

Step 4

“Hydration is the key to healthy, plump looking skin. Hydrate with a serum containing hyaluronic acid (which holds 1000x its weight in water) to fill in fine lines and wrinkles.”

Step 5

“Moisturize to lock in hydration and be sure to use a moisturizer that’s specific to your skin type.  For extra glowy skin, I love using the ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer which is included in the summer Box of Style.  It contains glycolic + lactic acids, as well as pumpkin, pineapple and papaya enzymes to gently exfoliate and reveal a radiant, even complexion.”
